Dinner at the St. George & Dragon

St George & Dragon, Wargrave
Last week, Tom and I were invited out to dinner at the St George & Dragon, Wargrave for the press evening of their recent refurbishment.

One of Mitchell & Butler's Premium Country Pubs, the St George & Dragon is renowned for its beautiful riverside location and is one of Berkshire's busiest pubs during the summer months. Having undergone a significant investment and two week closure, we were extremely excited to finally see its modern new look...

Upon our arrival we were greeted with a stunning DIY Gin bar, where a very knowledgable mixologist helped us create personalised Gin & Tonics to suit our taste. We then took a seat in the new bar area; which felt really relaxing and the perfect space to enjoy some pre-dinner drinks, which we rarely make time to do! Just as we had finished admiring the newly refurbished space, an incredible platter of canap├ęs came out including the new Vegan Spiced Coconut Curry, Mozzarella Bites, Duck Liver & Port Parfait and Lobster & Crab Fishcakes. Beautifully served and equally delicious, it was a lovely way to enjoy some of the highlights from the new seasonal menu.

After finishing our Gin & Tonics we were taken through to the main restaurant, where we proceeded to deliberate over the generous and extremely varied menu. Eventually, and with some much-needed recommendations, the wonderful Crina took our order. We enjoyed three delicious courses of food, wine and laughter in a lovely, relaxing atmosphere accompanied with live music and a roaring fire. Some food highlights for me included the Thyme Roasted Portobello Mushrooms, Soy Glazed Greens and of course, the Melting Chocolate & Peanut Bomb.

Needless to say it was a long evening, so the boys finished up with a coffee while us girls decided to take it up a notch with a seriously indulgent Espresso Martini - the perfect ending to a wonderful evening! The newly refurbished St George & Dragon is now open to the public, so if you fancy taking a look at the transformation yourself, you can book a table online. I honestly can't recommend it enough!
